Art Class Experience

I have made reference to this already but I think an art class is a great business idea to share with anyone who would be interested in teaching. It has been my experience that an art class setting creates a fun activity for everyone. It has a party atmosphere and it wasn't long before I decided to offer that party option to people. "Have a painting party in your home" I would say "and I will come and teach a class where you can invite your friends for a girls night out session". If you want to entertain your teenagers, this is an easy craft for kids. I have had moms invite their grown daughters and just have fun reconnecting in this way. Some offer a bit of wine and cheese to top it off. But each of these sessions have been very special. Go look at the Art Party link to your left.

I began thinking that retirement homes would also be good places to connect with to teach an art class. Soon I was teaching an art class at the local senior center here in Edmonds and then in the surrounding area as there are a lot of these facilities and there will be a lot more as the boomers age. Unlike our parents generation this one is very active and on the go looking for learning experiences of all sorts. That is why some of these centers have such well equipped art class rooms where you can see all sorts of activities from painting, silversmith, wood carving, pottery, etc. So it is a great place to set up and teach wax. I have had so many of these customers tell me how much they enjoy doing this art form and what it has meant for them to discover their artistic ability. I have mentioned we go to Arizona in the winter and lately have chosen Green Valley as our destination. I have taught an art class in the recreational facilities in that area and the response was overwhelming. I am already signed up to teach again this winter when we return.

I have a friend in the co op gallery here in Edmonds. She is quite an accomplished artist herself and she invited some of her friends one day to have a wax class. They had such fun and what a discovery wax has been for her. Now she paints when ever she has a chance and her painting are hanging in the gallery as well. She always is excited to talk about what wax painting has meant to her and that we also got some of her painting buddies back into doing art.

So from nine to ninety there is quite a range of folks who will take to this like a duck to water. I can see a lot of groups would be good tocontact to explore this idea of either an art class or a demo / talk. Church groups and Home Schools for sure. I have an artist friend who teaches art in the Home School program that invited me to come and do a class for her. There was an age range from 10 to 14 age in the class. There was a great response, and one parent called and wanted get extra classes for her son who just loved the experience.

I think wax painting is a great therapeutic art form that it would fit in great at a hospital. I already know there are art programs taught in hospitals and I am going to find out who would like to explore wax in that setting. Don't you think painting something like this would cheer a fellow up?
