Domino Art Jewelry

New Page 1

Domino art jewelry showed up through a student in one of my wax art classes. She had several handfuls of these delightful domino art creations and we all wanted to purchase them as they were so different. After I got one of these domino pieces home for Muriel we thought this is something we could do together as well as the classes. Right away I thought there would be a way to include wax into the production. My first thought was to take some patterns that I had printed on my laser printer and then waxed them. I cut them to fit the back sides of the dominos to see what that would look like and it worked. Then I tried to wax directly on the dominos and that is also a possibility.

First job is to locate some rubber stamps that will fit the dominos art size. Then there is the methods of coloring them. I found that I liked to work with colored rubber stamp pads like Color Box. Then the backs can be colored with alcohol inks. You can seal them with Triple Thick or Future Floor Wax. I also did them with acrylic mat media, and I liked that mat look and then I went back and did the faces with the floor polish.

Another process is to locate beads to work with your creations. I found out that Muriel has a much better eye for selecting the right beads for the different dominos. A trip to a bead store can be overwhelming and I choose to locate inexpensive beads to start with. If you look you can fine some at 8 cents each, but those are few and far between.

I am going to post our first batch that we did to give you some ideas.

On the above dominos shown the two that have Chinese characters were done on my laser printer and then waxed. The one that is red was also colored with the alcohol ink. I have more of these samples and I will point them out to you as I post those graphics. All the faces are first rubber stamped and then colored.

The last three in the above line are waxed backs of the dominos, the first two are waxed laser copies and the last is just wax on gloss card stock.

All of the above domino art pieces are backs and the first one is all wax on gloss card stock while the rest have been images printed on the laser printer and then waxed. It is a nice way to finish off the backs but I will also show just the backs without these covers.

You can already tell the first two domino art pieces above are the printed wax type, the next is a back just with the alcohol ink color while the next is a front with just alcohol ink and the last is a rubber stamp all over pattern and then alcohol ink coloring. To perk them up a bit we have glued on a decorative add on piece. Below I am going to add some dominos done the long way for either pins or if you glue a bead on top you could make pendants.
